We’re at a somewhat interesting point in our negotiations. Let us look at our candidates:
JW MARRIOT
- It’s got a great location, right in the middle of town along Jln Bukit Bintang, right opposite Pavillion and surrounded by tons of great places to go to after a ball.
- Date is pretty much settled on 28th June for this one, they’re offering a good deal to us.
- The ballroom is large, ornate and grand, but has a rather small stage, even after coupled with extensions. No problems with a dancefloor, though.
- They’re getting us a customized fusion menu, which can still be discussed, the food tasting has yet t occur but the dishes sound pretty nice. Personally I am a little wary of the food.
- Cost-wise they’re affordable, ticket price range will probably stick to our 110 (early bird), 130 (normal) initial budget.
- Their parking is a flat RM 5 with hotel validation.
KL HILTON (NOT PJ HILTON, THIS IS THE ONE NEAR SENTRAL)
- No trouble with public transport to the event, as it’s right next to KL Sentral, this place may not have many clubs in the vicinity but it’s got a GREAT view from the ballroom foyer.
- Unfortunately 28th has been taken for KL Hilton, but we can probably push it to 29th or 30th without much ado, hopefully.
- The grand ballroom is magnificent, really puts an emphasis on the ‘grand’, plus no problems with dancefloor and we’ll have a more centralized stage.
- Their initial menu selection was good, again not so cultural, a fusion menu which might end up quite affordably for us.
- Due to a few additional charges that are pretty much troublesome for us all, we may have to shift ticket pricing to a 130 (Early Bird), 150 (Normal) model, which I’m rather worried about. In addition, we’ll have to get about 10k extra compared to Marriott, which annoys us greatly.
- Their parking is a flat RM 8 per entry, with a parking voucher that will be given to all guests.
This will be an interesting selection indeed.
Thoughts, everyone? Especially on ticket price, we’ll try to keep it as low as we can afford.
Let’s see what the reception’ll be like.

Great to know that planning for the ball is going on pretty smoothly. Well, both venues sound great to me. Though I think most of the others would prefer JW Marriot because of it’s location.
Hey,
Look like ya’ll have narrowed e choice down pretty quick. Among the two, I’d prefer the JW Mariott. However, I have a few suggestions of my own for you to consider. I was thinking that maybe we should organise this event in KL. Primarily because then, we can organise an after party at Maison or something.. We could like book the entire upstairs or something.. A few suggestions fo location besides JW Mariott is Equatorial Hotel and Sheraton Imperial (or now known as Hotel Imperial). Besides that, there is also the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre’s Grand Ballroom or Banquet Halls. This may or may not be fitted to our budget. But, you should consider it. But, if you prefer the elegance of occasion rather than the after party, how about the Palace of Golden Horses? They have this supercool themed party feature. Anyway, these are just my thought.
Hope ya’ll consider it!
Hey Lekhna , just for your information, we have already inquired at both the Equatorial Hotel and Sheraton Imperial, however their capacity cannot accommodate the roughly 550 people we are hoping to get and still provide a decent sized dancefloor. We have also contacted the Palace of the Golden Horses and it was high on our list, however upon discussing it we decided that it is too far away (near the Mines) and getting people there without many of them getting lost, stuck in a jam etc was too risky. I am also talking to the KLCC and will update you guys further. We have also made firm inquiries at the Mandrin Oriental but think it wouldn’t be so ideal as they just had it there last year . Thanks again for your input and we will definitely keep you guys updated.
I think I like KL Hilton
i think mandarin oriental wud be nice. lol
it is very nice, but its second on the list (after kl hilton) because they had it there last year. change of scene is always good
why not mandarin oriental? it doesn’t really matter the seniors had theirs there…besides, many current A49,A50,A51 students didn’t go for the ball last year…MO has the grandeur and adequate space to fit 500 plus people…easier to get there by LRT.a nice park nearby…(^.^)… and still quite near clubs for ya’ll to have an after partey..KL Hilton would be good too for it’s nearer to HELP. it’ll be definitely better to for the organizing comm. to travel to and fro the hotel on the day itself and for any day prior to the event.food in KL Hilton is better. all the best for the prep…..make it a night to remember…
KL Hilton is looking like the runaway favourite, we also have MO locked in a quotation and tentative booking . Marriotts in third place.
exactly.. just because last year’s ball was in mandarin, doesnt mean we cant do it there again.. i mean, the food in mandarin is great too.. cmon think abt it.
and please dont make it in marriott..
