Annual Ball is approaching!
Our annual ball is linked with many agendas, especially the theme “Afterglow”. When we discussed the theme, all of us want you to have a night to remember, a romantic and a fairytale evening with your date and your friends.
Since the event is going to be held in KL Hilton - you know, the hotel with the really huge floor-to-ceiling windows? Refer to Matt’s picture post earlier in the archives - the evening sunset was implemented into the theme. The annual ball signifies the end of your semester in HELP, and what better way to celebrate that by overlooking the city of Kuala Lumpur and viewing the sunset during the annual ball with all the friends you’ve made throughout your days in HELP?
On a personal note, let me give you *my* reasons as to why I would attend the ball (Assuming I wasn’t a member of the council, that is…)
After the SPM, it’s common for schools everywhere to have a prom night. Not going into detail, I feel that what I experienced during my Form 5 prom could have been improved. And I’m sure some of you may agree. For the girls, some of you may feel that it wasn’t as glamorous as what you might have imagined. For me, it really wasn;t what I thought it would be.
Allow me to give you a comparison. ( • means my high school prom » means A-Levels Annual Ball )
The Venue
• Think of this. The venue got changed from so many hotels in KL and it was finally agreed to be held at the one in Midvalley. So it was troublesome for all the attendees.
» But for this year’s A-Levels Annual Ball, its held at the place we promised earlier - the KL Hilton. Possibly one of the best hotels in Malaysia - definitely better than my old prom (plus this year I get to view the sunset!).
The Food
• Imagine this, having to be all “kiasu” (dont be mistaken, not “kiam siap” arhhh) during your annual ball with all your friends rushing over to the buffet trays to grab the food. Being Malaysian, once people hear buffet, they tend to forget about themselves and take more than they could actually consume. *No joke, I’m like that too*
Plus it isnt comfortable where you would have to rush with your expensive prom suits and tailor made dresses. (Imagine a few hundred people rushing…omg)
» So during this year’s annual ball, everybody will be served in a classy manner. Being personally served by a waiter also means that you dont have to queue - in addition a delicious Western menu suitable for everyone.
The Performance
• Lets not talk about my previous prom performance. C’mon, a guy performer talking about 18SX issues while showing “how to do it” with a chair - while we were eating?
» Talking about performers, the picture I’ve posted earlier is not Jason, but Dennis Yin from “So You Think You Can Dance” ( His picture is at the bottom of this post ). I’m sure a lot of people is hoping that Jason would sing us a song, so if you think alike, drop a comment and he might do it after he reads all your comments!
Frankly, the performance will be great as what Angeline has quoted earlier. In fact, the PA system company alone for that night would set us back nearly RM5k. Imagine with that sound system for the performers - and later, for the people dancing to rock out to. “Even William Hung’s singing might get praise from Simon Cowell” !! (Oklah I am going off topic)
In conclusion, dont attend the Annual Ball just because your friends force you to do so. Attend it because you really want to have a spectacular night with all your friends and to hang out and remember all the great times you’ve had - while having yet another great time, courtesy of the Student Council.
In my case, I want to replace the previous prom I’ve had and to have a greater ball to remember 20, 30 years down the line. If you have any stories regarding your previous ball that you would like to share, email us and tell us about it! I appreciate your reading this post!!

Dear HELP A Levels students, your temporary marketing director is checking in with lots of interesting info.
First up - the posters carry all the details you need to come for our ball, but in case you haven’t seen them, here they are - i hope you like them.
The black and white one. It’s up around the Wisma building on all the notice boards and in the DSA.

The coloured one that is kinda sweet. haha. that’s up around the college too. I’m sorry if these aren’t the best quality photos - i had to convert the images to upload them cos wordpress doesn’t like large sized images.
Preparation for the ball is driving everyone up the wall - we’ve got another 8 days to sell tickets. There is an events schedule in facebook already (search events for Afterglow)- if you have been invited, invite more friends to come. If you haven’t, consider this an invite. =)
Details in a nutshell -
Date - 30th June 2008, Monday.
Time - Registration begins at 6pm, the event begins at 7.
Venue - KL Hilton Grand Ballroom (KL Hilton is one of the 2 hotels on top of the KL Sentral (or Central))
Theme - Afterglow
Dressing - Formal
Ticket price - RM 130 per ticket. Each table has 10 seats. Tickets are being sold at the DSA now and you can actually book tickets by phoning or texting the council members - Jason, Hitakshi, Pei Hau, Pia,Jon Hoe, Sze Yin and (for the moment) me.
Perks - definitely plenty. we’ve got a really good setting - and there’s this romantic walkway to the ballroom - with pretty lights and our backdrop is going to be handpainted, if i’m not mistaken. Food is going to be served to you - no buffet business. Strictly waiter-serving-to-your-table-styled 3 course meal - appetizer, main course and dessert. Entertainment is going to be absolutely amazing - we have a latin dance, some live bands, our emcees for the evening are Junior and Dan from Mix FM, we have a DJ, some of our own students might even be performing. Everyone’s probably going to get some presents too. Who doesn’t love presents?
If you’re attending our event and what more, performing, why not invite all your friends to come along to support you? Then you’ll have a good time. The council also has a plan for those who want to meet new friends, or those who are new to the course, but that shall only be revealed to you on the night itself if circumstances allow.
I’m going to answer some of the questions you may have had about our event here - you should be able to guess the questions by reading the answers -
1) Yes, you are allowed to bring friends from different colleges. even from high school. even your little sister. even your parents. even your cousins from Hawaii. anyone and everyone can come for our event.
2) No, this is not a A49 centred event - although the A49 students will be the majority seeing as it is their last event together - and to demonstrate our disregard for which intake you’re from, we only ask for your name and student ID when you buy your tickets so we can issue receipts. First come, first serve. You get to choose your own tables and seats. We even have a seating plan so you can see where the tables are.
THIS IS AN A LEVEL EVENT. IF YOU’RE IN A LEVELS, IT’S YOUR PLACE TO GO. Definitely.
3) Yes, you are allowed to buy tickets up till the day of the event itself, and there is no price hike. It’s RM 130 for everyone, regardless of when you buy your ticket. unless, of course, you were 1 of the 50 early birds.
4) No, you don’t have to bring a date. It is perfectly okay to come without one - i’m going without a date and i’m proud of it.
5) It will be fun if you come and make it fun. =) We’re in A Levels. We have plenty of fun in college. So why would it change at KL Hilton? We’re spreading the love.
So make your 5 letter answer to the question “Are you coming to the ball?” to the 3 letter one.
Don’t give us the evil 2 letter one.
love, Angeline (the short, spirited one).

Sales of A-Levels Annual Ball 2008 Tickets!
Hello everyone, I apologize for not starting with any personification like what Pia did, but lets lay back a little and talk rather frankly in this blog post. Most of us are enjoying the moments after our examination while a handful of us are still fighting the exam battle.
A little update for ticket sales, I have to be very frank that the ticket sales has been a little slow lately mainly due to the exams. However, I am certain that we will be picking up the momentum from now on considering we sold more and more tickets compared to previous weeks. ( Of course lah right? During exams people tend to concentrate what they missed for the whole term and will try their best to make full use of their time to revise! )
I must admit, I looked like a zombie on the last day of exams (chemistry paper) after sleeping only a few hours.
Okay, back to the topic. The actual tickets will be open for collection sometime soon, and we will be very pleased to inform all of you when that time comes.
For those who have not purchased their annual ball tickets, kindly come to the DSA as we will be begin selling everyday at 10am to about 5pm depending on the shift that particular day, the timeframe above should be accurate if you come in between those hours.

Sze Yin was there these few days dealing with the ticketing booth, and I managed to get a photo of her. She looks abit bored yea? Wait, or is that an emo look? Come to the DSA and say “hi” to her hahahaa. By the way, she didnt know that I posted this picture of her. So, just keep it to yourself and visit our ticketing booth. You can keep saying “hi” to her…or say cheer up!
In addition, we will be handing out free bookmarks printed in conjunction with the ball. If you would like to have them, hop into the DSA during ticket sales hours and grab a free bookmark!
We certainly wish to hear any suggestions from any of you and we hope you will continue supporting us.
Thanks!
Signing out,
Lim Pei Hau
